A viral video from Pakistan has sparked widespread discussion after senior leaders of the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were reportedly seen attending the funeral of Shahid Akhtar, the elder brother of former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, in Islamabad.
Among those seen in the footage is Saifullah Kasuri, the deputy chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba, who has been identified by Indian authorities as one of the alleged masterminds behind the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. The video, which has gone viral on social media, has reignited debate over the alleged presence and influence of terror-linked figures in Pakistan.
Reports also claim that Inam-ur-Rehman, president of the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML)—a political outfit that has been widely reported as having links to Lashkar-e-Taiba—was present at the funeral, along with several other individuals associated with the organisation.
The funeral was held in Islamabad following the death of Shahid Akhtar earlier this week. While the viral footage has generated significant attention and criticism, there is no official evidence that Shoaib Akhtar himself has any association with the individuals seen in the video. Neither Shoaib Akhtar nor the Pakistani government has issued an official statement regarding the controversy so far.
The incident comes amid continued scrutiny of Pakistan’s handling of banned terrorist organisations. The appearance of senior LeT figures at a public funeral has once again drawn attention to allegations that extremist groups continue to operate openly within the country, an issue that India has repeatedly raised on international platforms.
