The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for parts of Telangana, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three days. According to the latest weather bulletin, several districts are likely to witness intense rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.
The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall from June 30 to July 2, with isolated areas expected to receive extremely heavy showers. Apart from heavy rain, many parts of the state may experience moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. Authorities have advised residents to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, and take precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds.
Farmers have also been urged to take preventive measures to protect standing crops, harvested produce, and agricultural equipment from potential damage caused by heavy rain and high winds. Local administrations have been instructed to stay prepared for waterlogging, flash floods in low-lying areas, and disruptions to transportation.
The weather department attributed the changing conditions to the active southwest monsoon, which has strengthened across central and southern India. Several other states, including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh, are also expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next few days.
Although the IMD has projected below-normal seasonal rainfall this year due to the possible influence of El Niño, it noted that the early phase of the southwest monsoon is likely to bring spells of intense rainfall. In Telangana, where monsoon showers have already begun, meteorologists say the heaviest phase of the season is now expected to set in, prompting authorities to urge citizens to remain cautious until weather conditions improve.
