The Padma Awards ceremony, one of India’s highest civilian honors, was held in New Delhi on Tuesday evening. During the event at the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Droupadi Murmu conferred Padma awards on distinguished personalities from various fields.
Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty, 74, received the Padma Bhushan in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Mammootty, who has acted in more than 400 films, has received several awards during his long career in cinema.
Tamil actor R. Madhavan was also honored with the Padma Bhushan. His wife Sarita and son Vedant were present during the ceremony and applauded as he went on stage to receive the award.
Veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik received the Padma Bhushan for her contribution to Indian music. Having recorded thousands of songs in multiple languages, she has been one of the most prominent voices in Indian cinema.
On Monday, actors Rajendra Prasad and Murali Mohan were conferred the Padma Shri. Rajendra Prasad has portrayed a wide range of characters throughout his career, while Murali Mohan has contributed to Telugu cinema both as an actor and producer through the Jayabheri banner.
Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma was also honored with the Padma Shri in recognition of his contributions to the sport.
The awards ceremony recognized achievements across cinema, music, and sports, celebrating individuals who have made notable contributions in their respective fields.
