A major development has emerged in the alleged donation scam linked to the Ayodhya Ram Temple. During a meeting of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the resignations of General Secretary Champat Rai and Trustee Anil Mishra were unanimously accepted.
Questions were raised over their alleged role after reports of irregularities involving temple donations surfaced. With a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case, both officials stepped down from their positions.
Sources said the trust meeting, held on July 6, also discussed the nationwide impact of the alleged donation scam and the damage caused to the reputation of the Ram Temple. The meeting reportedly prioritized accepting the resignations before taking up other agenda items.
The controversy revolves around allegations that donations collected for the construction of the Ram Temple were misappropriated by certain members of the trust. There are also claims that jobs within the temple administration were sold in exchange for money. Both allegations are currently under investigation by the SIT.
The case has sparked widespread political and public debate, with opposition parties demanding a transparent probe. It has also put the Uttar Pradesh government and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath under pressure. Investigators are expected to question Champat Rai and Anil Mishra as part of the ongoing inquiry.
