Young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi is likely to get another opportunity in India’s playing XI despite a disappointing debut. After earning his place amid huge expectations, the youngster made an aggressive start by smashing a six but failed to convert it into a big innings, leaving fans wanting more.
According to reports, the Indian team management is expected to retain Vaibhav for the third T20. Head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shreyas Iyer are reportedly not considering dropping him after just one game. While he managed only 14 runs, the coaching staff is believed to be impressed with his positive intent at the crease.
Vaibhav was included in the side after Sanju Samson endured a poor run of form, failing to make an impact in three consecutive matches. Given that context, selectors are unlikely to judge the youngster based on a single innings.
Opening the batting, Vaibhav looked confident and fearless but was dismissed after scoring 14 runs off 10 balls, including two sixes. However, his mode of dismissal drew criticism, with some former players and fans feeling he threw away a promising start by playing an unnecessary attacking shot.
India’s defeat in the match also overshadowed the teenager’s international debut. With another chance expected in the next game, all eyes will now be on Vaibhav. A strong performance could not only silence critics but also help him secure a permanent place in India’s T20 setup.
