The Central Government has officially announced the names of the Indian armed forces personnel who laid down their lives during Operation Sindoor, India’s military operation launched in response to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

The attack in Pahalgam, where terrorists allegedly targeted civilians after identifying them by their religion, sparked nationwide outrage. In retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor, carrying out precision strikes against multiple terrorist camps and strategic military installations across the border. According to the government, the operation caused significant damage to enemy infrastructure and demonstrated India’s military capabilities.

While the operation was considered a strategic success, India also suffered the loss of several brave soldiers in the line of duty. Until now, the government had not officially disclosed their identities. The Ministry has now confirmed that five Army personnel and one Agniveer were martyred during the operation.

Their names will be permanently engraved on a special memorial plaque at the National War Memorial near India Gate in New Delhi as a tribute to their sacrifice.

The Martyrs of Operation Sindoor

  • Subedar Major Pawan Kumar – 10 Infantry Brigade Headquarters
  • Rifleman Sunil Kumar – 4th Battalion, Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry (Vir Chakra)
  • Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar – 5 Field Regiment
  • Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh – 237 Field Workshop
  • Sergeant Surendra Kumar – 39 Wing, Indian Air Force (Vayu Medal)
  • Agniveer Murali Naik – 851 Light Regiment

According to the government, these personnel lost their lives during enemy action on May 7, 2025, while participating in Operation Sindoor against Pakistan-based targets.

The Centre also announced the military honours and gallantry recognitions to be conferred upon the fallen soldiers. Their sacrifice has been hailed as a symbol of courage, dedication, and unwavering service to the nation.

The official announcement marks the nation’s tribute to the brave men who made the supreme sacrifice while defending India’s sovereignty and security.
