Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai, who left the BJP citing differences with the party’s policies and has since launched his own political movement, appears to have received an unexpected response from the BJP. Annamalai had earlier stated that he had met Tamil superstar Rajinikanth even before joining the BJP. Now, political observers believe that the BJP may be looking to use the same Rajinikanth as a counterweight to Annamalai’s growing influence.
A recent meeting between Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran, and BJP National Secretary Arvind Menon has generated significant political interest. Observers are closely examining the reasons behind this meeting, particularly in the current political climate.
Rajinikanth has maintained cordial relations with several BJP leaders for some time. However, before the elections, the superstar largely kept his distance from the BJP. Following the formation of the new government, there has been speculation that Rajinikanth has softened his stance and has been in regular touch with BJP leaders. Political analysts believe this may be one of the reasons why senior BJP leaders held a special meeting with him.
The timing of the meeting, coming shortly after Annamalai’s resignation from the BJP, has fueled several political speculations.
Political observers believe that the BJP is looking for a strong superstar face to counter actor-turned-politician Vijay, who emerged as a major political force in Tamil Nadu. According to these assessments, the BJP may be preparing the ground for Rajinikanth to play a larger political role following Annamalai’s exit.
Rajinikanth had previously announced plans to enter politics and even considered launching his own party, but later reversed his decision unexpectedly. However, analysts suggest that Vijay’s recent political success may have sparked fresh political thinking within Rajinikanth’s camp.
Following the Assembly election results, discussions about politics and cinema have intensified across Tamil Nadu. Rajinikanth’s possible political entry has once again become a hot topic. Many of his supporters believe that, like Vijay, Rajinikanth could have become Chief Minister had he actively entered politics.
At present, however, political observers say there are no indications that Rajinikanth intends to launch a new party. As a result, some of his supporters are reportedly urging him to join an existing political party so that they can see their favorite leader play a direct role in governance.
Sensing an opportunity, BJP leaders reportedly met Rajinikanth, discussed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s twelve years of governance, presented him with a book on the subject, and also held discussions regarding future political developments and possibilities.
